mölndals kammarkör

Mölndals kammarkör (Mölndal's chamber choir) is a young Swedish choir with members ranging from 25-45 years of age. All members are amateurs in the true sense of the word; none of the singers have formal training, yet they strive for perfection simply for the joy of expressing oneself using the human voice.

The choir first met the public eye (ear?) in 1990 with a set of concerts starring the jazz legend Bengt Hallberg. Ever since, the choir have presented itself in annual concert series both in Sweden and abroad. Since it's conception the choir have been conducted by Jan Ivar Blixt.

In the intense concerts, which have come to be the trademark of Mölndals Kammarkör, a holistic unity is created by a blend of lyrical, musical and scenic expression. Contemporary art music, which sometimes is considered too awkward for mainstream listeners, is gently manhandled by the choir who incorporates jazz, folklore and modern music to lend the original material new aspects.

In 1997 the choir came runner up in »Toner för miljoner«, Swedens largest annual choir contest. In the national finals, a completely overwhelmed jury set up a new award, »best single performance«, after being knocked over by Mölndals Kammarkör performing »Bossa buffa« by Swedish composer Arne Mellnäs.

In 2001, the choir went to Prague to participate in the »11th International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music«, where it won the category for small choirs and the Petr Eben Award.

In april 2003, the choir won gold and got the third best score out of 68 participating choirs in the Musica Mundi »9th International Choir Competition Budapest in Hungary«.
